Still Clean After Years of Daily Coffee
DRAG TO COMPARE
Our ceramic lining runs all the way to the top of the cup and over the threads, so your drink never touches bare metal on its way out. Most ceramic lined tumblers stop the coating below the rim. That exposed steel is where staining starts, where coffee oils settle into the thread grooves, and where the stale smell comes from. The bru lining is stain and odour resistant, so it stays looking like the left hand side.
Got Questions About the bru Ceramic Travel Mug?
Is the bru Ceramic Travel Mug leakproof?
Yes, the bru ceramic travel mug is 100% leakproof, not splash resistant. A silicone gasket seals the lid to the cup and a second seal closes the drinking channel, so a full mug can go in a backpack, a tote or a gym bag lid down. The lid has a visible indentation line that only shows when it is fully sealed, so you never have to guess. We machine test every lid design to 10,000 open and close cycles before it goes into production.
Is the ceramic coating safe?
Yes, the ceramic coating on the bru travel mug is independently tested and certified safe. We have gone further than most to prove it. We sent our actual bru Travel cups to SGS, one of the world's leading independent testing and certification bodies, for full third-party safety testing. They tested the complete cup including the ceramic coating, the stainless steel beneath, the lid and the silicone seals.
The ceramic coating passed full EU heavy metal migration testing (Council of Europe Resolution CM/Res(2013)9) at 100°C with an acidic simulant, with no detectable migration of any of the 21 metals tested, including lead, cadmium, nickel, chromium, mercury and arsenic.
The stainless steel beneath was tested at 19.8% chromium content, exceeding the FDA minimum of 16% for food-grade stainless. The lid and silicone components passed FDA 21 CFR food contact testing too.
So whether your coating is fully intact or has a small scratch, every surface that touches your drink has been independently tested and certified safe.
How long does it keep drinks hot?
The bru ceramic travel mug keeps drinks hot for up to 8 hours and cold for up to 12 hours. Double walled vacuum insulation does both, so the same mug works for a morning coffee and an iced drink in summer. Heat retention depends on size, with the 16oz holding temperature longest and the 8oz shortest. The outer surface stays cool to touch and never sweats, so it will not leave a ring on a desk or soak a bag.
Will it fit in my car cup holder?
Yes. All three bru ceramic travel mug sizes fit standard car cup holders. The 8oz, 12oz and 16oz all share a 6.5cm base diameter, so the size you choose changes the height, not the fit. It also works in bike handlebar holders and backpack side pockets.
Can I put it in the dishwasher?
The lid is top rack dishwasher safe and it unscrews into three parts, so every surface gets cleaned properly. The cup body should be hand washed with warm soapy water and a soft brush or sponge. Dishwashing the body damages the external powder coating over time. Use an unscented or lightly scented detergent, since strong fragrances can linger.
What sizes does the bru Ceramic Travel Mug come in?
Three sizes: 8oz (230ml) for flat whites and espresso based drinks, 12oz (340ml) for everyday coffee and tea, and 16oz (455ml) for longer trips or larger drinks. The 8oz is our small travel mug, and the 16oz is the largest ceramic travel mug we make.
How is bru different from a KeepCup or Stojo and others?
The main difference is what your drink touches. KeepCup and Stojo use glass, plastic or bare stainless steel, so hot coffee sits against metal or plastic on every sip. bru lines every mug with a ceramic coating that runs over the threads to the top of the cup, so your drink never passes exposed steel. Coffee tastes like coffee, nothing stains, and yesterday's drink never carries over. Stojo folds down for packing, which bru does not do. KeepCup makes some vacuum insulated models, and so does bru, but neither brand offers a ceramic lined interior.
What makes bru different from other ceramic travel mugs?
Three things. Our ceramic lining runs over the threads to the top of the cup, so your drink never passes exposed steel on the way out. Most ceramic lined tumblers stop the coating below the rim, which is where staining and stale smells start. Our lid unscrews into three separate parts with removable silicone seals, so every surface that touches coffee can be washed properly rather than sealed inside the lid. And the cap is concave, so your nose is not pressed flat against the lid on every sip. It sounds minor until you have drunk from a flat lidded tumbler for a week. bru is designed in the UK, funded on Kickstarter by 3,380 backers, and independently SGS tested with published results.
