FAQs

Q: Why does the internal lid mechanism need to be kept dry?

A: In order to pass the human health safety tests, we were limited to the types of plastics we could use. All plastics absorb some amount of moisture making them 'swell' but they vary considerably in this aspect. We used the least absorbent plastic we could but it will still swell slightly when exposed to moisture for extended periods. When it swells, the stem of the lid cap gets stuck in the mechanism.

Q: What should I do if my lid gets stuck?

A: Firstly, don't worry (the lid is likely not broken or faulty). Just take the lid apart into its 3 sections (see Video 2), and allow the internal parts to dry out fully. This could take anywhere between 6h and 48h, depending on ambient temperature and humidity. The warmer and drier the conditions, the quicker the lid will dry. You can speed up the drying process by placing next to a heat source like a radiator or placing in a an airtight bag like a zip-lock, with raw rice inside to absorb the moisture. Your lid should be back to working perfectly once fully dry. A loud 'click' when put in the closed position is a helpful indicator for this.

Q: Is the cup and lid dishwasher-safe?

A: No and yes! The cup itself is not as the external powder coating will quickly get ruined in the dishwasher. The lid is fine in the top rack of the dishwasher however, the hot, humid conditions during a cycle encourage more moisture uptake and 'swelling' of the plastic lid parts, than hand-washing, making the lid not function properly until fully dry again which can take upwards of 24h. Thus we recommend, a quick hand wash in warm (not hot) soapy water instead.

Q: Why did my cup leak?

A: There are 4 possible causes. One, the cap was accidentally left in the 'open' position. Two, the lid got 'stuck' and didn't close fully. Three, the lid parts were not screwed together tightly enough. Four, the lid was screwed onto the cup at an angle.

Q: How can I prevent leaks in the future?

A: Most importantly, allow the internal parts of your lid to dry out daily so your lid functions properly. Before each use, make sure to check that the lid parts are screwed together tightly with no loose or wobbly bits (see Video 3). Make sure your lid is screwed on straight onto the thread of the cup (look for an even gap between bottom of lid and top of cup). Check and double-check that you have put your lid into the 'closed' position before putting in your bag. These steps will ensure that your bru Travel cup really is leakproof.

Q: Will my cup leak if I leave out one of the steps above?

A: Most likely! As an extra precautionary measure, you can test your cup before each use, and keep your cup upright when in your bag or place in a water tight bag if you know it's going to get shaken or fall over during your journey.

Q: How do I protect the ceramic coating from getting scratched?

A: Simply use wooden utensils instead of metal ones. Just make sure they're FSC-certified.
